Q: What permits and/or authorizations do temporary covers such as pressure balloons require?

Permits and authorizations to be able to install a pressure balloon may vary depending on the municipality in which it is located, as there is currently no precise regulation valid throughout the country. The only text on the subject is Art. 13 of Ministerial Decree 18/03/1996 et seq. m.

Q: Are pressostatic balloons with a floor area greater than 200 square meters, inside which sports activities (e.g., tennis courts, swimming pools, soccer fields, etc.) are included in item 65 of Annex I to Presidential Decree 151/2011 on fire prevention?

If a sports activity is carried out indoors, inside pressostatic structures, and there are no attached service areas, it is neither a "sports facility" nor a "sports complex" as defined by Ministerial Decree March 18, 1996, and therefore is not included, regardless of area, in item 65 of Annex I to Presidential Decree 151/2011). In cases where the public is expected to be present, the above activity will be subject to fire department inspections if the capacity is more than 100 people. Q: Are tennis courts and enclosed swimming pools with temporary structures, such as pressure balloons, or mobile structures to be included in activity 65 of Presidential Decree 151?

Spaces exclusively dedicated to sports activities, as defined by the Ministerial Decree of March 18, 1996, even if they are indoors and have a gross floor area of more than 200 square meters, are exempt from the requirements established by the aforementioned Presidential Decree. Said activities will still have to comply, under their own responsibility, with the applicable fire prevention regulations. Q: What are the steps to be taken during heavy snowfall on pressostatic balloons to eliminate snow accumulation on the top of the canopy and thus avoid problems?

In case of snow, it is advisable to maintain an overpressure of at least 20 mm water column (unit of air pressure) inside the balloon. This can be done by closing the air calibration lever, located on the recirculation of the generator. If this is not sufficient, it will be necessary to manually activate the emergency unit. Two other useful tips are to turn on the heating system and set it at a constant temperature of at least 17 C° and to turn off all hot air destratification systems (destratifier fan) if present, to allow the hot air to rise and stratify over the top of the canopy, thus facilitating the melting of the snow present on the top of the balloon and preventing its accumulation.

Q: What are the periodic checks that need to be carried out on pressure balloons in order to perform proper maintenance and thus optimize their safe service life?

To keep your Prima srl balloon beautiful and functional all you need to do is to perform a few simple checks periodically, some of which may vary depending on the type of pressostatic cover you choose (single membrane, double membrane, "Class A"), as per the appropriate use and maintenance manual that we will provide with the pressostatic balloon itself.

Q: In general, what is the average lifetime of a pressure balloon?

Theoretically, the average lifespan of a pressure balloon is around 20 years. Obviously, it is then necessary to evaluate on a case-by-case basis according to the constancy applied by the plant operators in carrying out routine maintenance, compliance with the rules for the good preservation of the roof, the professionalism of the personnel used for seasonal assembly/disassembly as well as whether the place chosen for the seasonal sheltering of the disassembled sheet is congruous to preserve its integrity.
